Installing Wallstarter kits

Looking to join new walls to existing masonry? Then look no further than our stainless steel Wallstarter Kits.

Using our kit, makes the process quick and easy in both internal and external brick or block walls. Below is a quick guide to installation:

Internal Walls

To begin the installation process for internal walls, plumb the lower connector against the existing wall so that it will be central to the new wall. Mark the position of the fixing holes and ensure that each connector is fixed at three points: the first, last and central slots. Don’t forget one of these fixings should be at the point two connectors slot together and overlap. Also, remember fixings should be into brickwork and not mortar joints.

Next, using the plugs provided, drill and plug using an 8mm masonry drill bit before fixing the bottom two holes lightly using the stainless steel coach screws and washers. At this point, slot together the upper and lower connectors and if necessary repeat the above steps. Key points to note are the upper connector can be cut to length if required and tighten all fixings using a 10mm socket or box spanner.

Continue on to build the wall in the conventional way with a full mortar joint between the existing and the new wall. At a maximum of 300 centres, ties should be inserted into every third brick course or each block course. Finally, ensure that the ties and connectors are completely embedded with mortar.

External Walls

Moving onto external walls, start by ensuring that the bottom edge of the connector is above the damp-proof course. Implement a weather seal of approximately 10mm between the connector and the existing wall using a flexible mastic sealant or a compressible sealing strip.

At this stage continue with usual steps laid out above. Don’t forget to consult your Local Authority if additional weatherproofing is required in accordance with local building regulations.
